Who We Are
Creative Haven Homestead is a small animal sanctuary in Delaware run by wife and husband team Sarah and Justin.
What We Do
Creative Haven Homestead offers a sanctuary to homeless animals while bringing awareness to animal education, adoption advocacy, and imperfect sustainability.
What We Believe
We believe that adoption changes lives. It reminds that no matter where we come from, we all deserve love and a second chance.
We believe that many people making some sustainable choices has a bigger impact than a few people living zero waste lives. We aren’t perfect.
And neither are the animals we adopt.
The Founding of Creative Haven Homestead
Where it all began.
In 2017, Sarah Henry adopted a rabbit from My Hope’s In You Small Animal Shelter. She named him Pancake. He acted as her college ESA and lived with her on campus.
On December 31, 2018, Justin proposed to Sarah. In May 2019, they graduated from college and moved to Delaware with Pancake. Their apartment slowly became home to more animals, adding Andy and Ollie, a bonded rabbit pair in May and their first dog, Winston, in August.
On December 27, 2020, Justin and Sarah eloped in her parents’ home to have a COVID-safe wedding. 8 people attended and Winston laid on his mother’s dress for the duration of the ceremony.

The family grows.
Justin and Sarah moved into their first house in April of 2021. They had 2 acres of land and started to fill it with animals.
They decided they didn’t just want to adopt animals. They wanted to take in the animals that needed a sanctuary. They wanted to make their home a haven for animals who didn’t have much chance of a life outside of a shelter.
To date, their animals include:
- Winston (an American Bulldog/Pittie/Corgi Mix)
- Aloy (a Boxer/Pittie Mix)
- Hedy Lamarr (a domestic shorthair cat)
- Andy & Ollie (a Netherland Dwarf and Holland Lop bonded rabbit pair)
- Matilda (an angora rabbit)
- Alexander Hamserton (a robo dwarf hamster)
- Reese & Peanut (a bonded sugar glider pair)
- Repecka, Amelia Egghart, Princess Lay-a, and Nugget (Partridge Rock Chickens)
